Key was there to help Emma, 17, when she found herself homeless following a relationship breakdown with her mum.

Key was there to help Emma*, 17, when she found herself homeless following a relationship breakdown with her mum.

She accepted a place in supported accommodation, at Askins Lodge, where she was encouraged to take control of her future by continuing with A-level studies at Sixth Form.

After Emma had decided on her degree subject, her key worker helped her to research and choose the right university, guiding her through the application process, as well as ensuring she was equipped with the skills she would need for independent living.

Emma was supported for six months at Askins during which time her relationship with her mother improved and visits to see her siblings again started to take place weekly. On successful completion of her exams, Emma moved back into the family home for a short period before taking up her place at university.
